About the Atlantic Salmon
The Atlantic Salmon (Salmo salar) is a legendary species celebrated in angling, aquaculture, and culinary traditions worldwide. Hatching in the shallow, stony reaches of cold freshwater streams, these fish undergo a remarkable physiological transformation to survive a massive migration into the saltwater of the North Atlantic. After feeding aggressively at sea for one to several years, they miraculously navigate back to the exact river of their birth to spawn, navigating rapids and waterfalls along the way. While widely farmed in sea cages, wild populations are carefully monitored and managed due to their immense ecological and economic value.
