Version 1.0 — effective 6 September 2026
This notice explains how OneShoal uses cookies and similar technologies and how you can control optional uses.
1. Cookies and similar technologies
A cookie is a small piece of information stored by a website in or through your browser. Similar rules can also apply to technologies that store information on, or access information from, your device, including localStorage, sessionStorage, pixels, scripts and similar storage or access technologies.
We use these technologies only where they have a defined purpose. Our live technology register below is intended to be the practical source of truth for technologies OneShoal has enabled.
2. Your choices in the UK
For UK users, OneShoal's default is straightforward:
- Necessary technologies may operate without consent only where the law permits this because they are required for a service you requested, security or another applicable exemption.
- Preferences, Analytics and Marketing technologies remain off until you choose them where consent is required.
- Our consent banner provides Accept all, Reject all and granular category controls.
- Rejecting optional technologies does not prevent you using the core marketplace.
- You can change or withdraw your choice at any time through Privacy Choices.
- Merely continuing to browse OneShoal is not treated as consent to optional technologies.
If the law in your country requires a different consent or opt-out model, we may apply the configuration appropriate to that jurisdiction while preserving mandatory rights.
3. Categories we use
Necessary
Technologies needed to provide a service you request, keep your session secure, remember your privacy choice, prevent abuse or operate other core functionality. These cannot always be switched off without breaking the requested function.
Preferences
Optional technologies that remember convenience choices, such as a saved approximate search area, where the applicable consent configuration permits them.
Analytics
Optional measurement used to understand how the product is used and improve it. For UK users, optional analytics remains off until the required consent is given. Where enabled, OneShoal aims to minimise data and avoid collecting free-text message content or exact private location as analytics properties.
Marketing
Advertising measurement, behavioural advertising, marketing pixels or similar technologies. These remain off until the required consent is given. OneShoal does not currently need behavioural tracking in order to display contextual or featured marketplace placements.
4. Current OneShoal technology register
The live register shown on this page identifies the technologies currently configured by OneShoal, including their purpose, category, storage type and retention information where available.
At launch, this includes core technologies such as:
- sign-in/session storage needed to keep a user authenticated;
- storage of your privacy/consent choice;
- server-side security and abuse-protection records;
- an optional saved search area preference;
- consent-controlled first-party product analytics; and
- marketing measurement or session-replay entries only where their register status shows they are enabled. Paused technologies should not run simply because an entry exists in the register.
The register should be reviewed whenever a new vendor, embed, analytics tool, payment flow or device-side technology is introduced.
5. Maps, security, payments and third parties
Some OneShoal features use third-party services, for example mapping, anti-abuse/security, AI or payment services. Not every server-side supplier places or reads information on your device, so the Cookie Notice does not list a provider merely because OneShoal uses it on the server.
Where a third-party feature does store or access information on your device, or otherwise triggers a storage/access rule, we classify and register the relevant technology and obtain consent where required. This includes reviewing embedded mapping tools, anti-bot or security tools and payment components as those integrations change.
Third-party providers may also process device or network information under their own privacy notices. OneShoal remains responsible for accurately explaining the way we choose to use those services.
6. Sponsored and featured placements
OneShoal may display clearly labelled featured listings, sponsored categories, sponsored search placements or other contextual promotions.
A contextual placement may be selected using the page, category, search term, country or general area being viewed without using marketing cookies or building a behavioural advertising profile. This allows OneShoal to monetise relevant marketplace visibility without unnecessary tracking.
If we later use third-party behavioural advertising, cross-site profiling, marketing pixels or advertising measurement that requires device storage/access consent, it will not run for UK users until the required consent has been obtained.
Paid visibility is not an endorsement or verification of a seller, product, animal or service.
7. How long technologies last
Retention varies by purpose and is shown in the live register where applicable. Current design principles include short-lived security data where practical, a finite period for privacy-choice records, and avoiding indefinite device storage without a justified purpose.
Deleting browser data may remove a saved choice. If that happens, OneShoal may need to ask for your privacy choice again.
8. Changing or withdrawing consent
Use the Privacy Choices link or control on OneShoal to change optional categories. Withdrawing consent does not make earlier lawful processing unlawful, but we will stop the relevant future consent-based storage/access or processing as required.
You can also control or clear cookies and site storage through your browser. Browser-level blocking may affect functionality that depends on strictly necessary storage.
9. Changes to this notice
We may update this notice and the live technology register when our technology or the law changes. We will show the current version and effective date.
A new optional tracking or marketing technology will not be treated as authorised merely because this notice has changed. Where the law requires a choice or consent, we will obtain it before activating the technology for that user.
