A clam that refuses to extend its mantle fully is typically suffering from inadequate lighting, poor or unstable water quality, or constant irritation from a nipping fish or parasitic pyramid snails.

Where should I place my Crocea Clam in the aquarium?

Unlike the larger Derasa or Squamosa clams, the Crocea must be placed on rockwork rather than the sandbed. Find a stable, bowl-like crevice in the upper section of your rockwork directly under intense lighting.

Do I need to feed my Crocea Clam?

While it receives the vast majority of its energy from photosynthesis, regular target feedings of marine phytoplankton are highly recommended, especially for smaller clams under 5 cm in size.

How do I know if my Crocea Clam has safely attached itself?

About the Crocea Clam

Tridacna crocea is the smallest of the giant clams, reaching a maximum size of just 15 centimetres. This mantle hosts symbiotic zooxanthellae, acting as a living solar panel while displaying striking, iridescent patterns of blue, purple, green, or gold.
