Why are my Green Chromis disappearing one by one?

This is a common issue often caused by a strict internal pecking order. In small groups, the dominant fish will single out and stress the weakest member to death, then move on to the next. Starting with a larger group (6 or more) in a spacious tank helps diffuse this aggression. Sudden losses in new fish can also be attributed to the Uronema parasite.

How many Green Chromis should I keep together?

It is highly recommended to keep them in groups of at least 5 to 7 individuals. Larger, odd-numbered groups are even better if your tank volume permits, as it spreads out their internal hierarchical bickering.

Are Green Chromis reef safe?

Yes, they are 100% reef safe. They are water-column feeders that will completely ignore your corals, anemones, and invertebrates like shrimp or snails.

How often should I feed my Green Chromis?

Because of their high metabolism and active swimming habits, they do best with 2 to 3 small feedings per day. A varied diet of marine flakes, pellets, and frozen foods like mysis shrimp will keep them plump and vibrant.

Will they get along with other damselfish?

Caution is advised. While Green Chromis are a type of damselfish, they are much more peaceful than their cousins (like the Domino or Three Stripe Damsel). Aggressive damselfish may relentlessly bully the passive Chromis.
