Do Head-and-Tail Light Tetras need a planted tank?

While they can survive in sparsely decorated tanks, they will only show their best colours and natural shoaling behaviours when they feel secure. A heavily planted tank, especially one with floating plants to dim the light, provides the perfect environment for them.

Why are my tetras looking pale and losing their glowing spots?

Paling is usually a sign of stress. This can be caused by poor water quality, bullying from tankmates, a shoal size that is too small, or an aquarium that is too brightly lit with a light-coloured substrate.
