About the Malaysian Trumpet Snail
The Malaysian Trumpet Snail is arguably the most hard-working and misunderstood invertebrate in the aquarium hobby. Renowned for its distinctive elongated, conical shell, it spends most of its daylight hours buried entirely out of sight. Far from being a mere pest, this snail acts much like an earthworm for the aquarium, turning over the sand and preventing toxic anaerobic gas pockets from forming. They are heavily armoured and possess an operculum (a tough trapdoor) to protect themselves from predators or drought.
