If a fish is small enough to fit into the Marine Betta's mouth, it is at high risk of being eaten. Fish like small neon gobies or tiny juvenile blennies should be avoided.

How do I get my new Marine Betta to eat?

Fresh arrivals can be very stubborn. Start by offering live ghost shrimp or enriched live adult brine shrimp to trigger their predatory instincts. Once eating live food reliably, you can gradually mix in frozen Mysis shrimp or small pieces of krill.

About the Marine Betta

Native to the reefs of the Indo-Pacific, Calloplesiops altivelis is a remarkably resilient but retiring species. Despite its predatory nature, it is incredibly peaceful towards similarly sized tankmates. When threatened, the Marine Betta dives head-first into a crevice and leaves its spotted tail exposed; the large ocellus (eye-spot) on its dorsal fin brilliantly mimics the head of a whitemouth moray eel, deterring potential predators.
