Colour loss or 'browning out' is usually caused by insufficient lighting, elevated phosphates, or excess nitrates in the water. Conversely, if it turns pale or white, the lighting may be too intense, or alkalinity might be unstable.

How fast does Montipora setosa grow?

It is considered a moderate grower. Initially, it puts most of its energy into encrusting its base across the rockwork. Once a solid foundation is established, it will begin to sprout its characteristic thick branches much faster.

Can I place this coral near my Acropora?

Yes, but leave enough space for growth. While neither coral has long sweeper tentacles, if they physically touch, the more aggressive coral (often the Acropora) may sting and kill the tissue on the Montipora.

What flow rate is best for Setosa corals?

Moderate to strong, chaotic flow is ideal. You want enough water movement to keep detritus from settling on the coral's uneven surface, but not direct, blasting flow from a powerhead, which can rip the tissue.
