About the Red Rainbowfish
Glossolepis incisa is one of the most iconic and recognisable rainbowfish in the aquarium hobby. Native exclusively to Lake Sentani in Papua, Indonesia, this species exhibits dramatic sexual dimorphism. While females remain a modest olive-yellow, mature males develop an intensely bright, salmon-red body that catches the light with silvery scales. Their energetic nature makes them a spectacular centrepiece for larger freshwater setups, though their critically endangered status in the wild means that captive-bred specimens are vital for the survival of the species.
