It is quite common for moray eels to go on 'hunger strikes', sometimes refusing food for several weeks without ill effect. This can be triggered by a drop in water quality, a recent move, or simply because they are fully satiated. Monitor your water parameters and try offering a favourite food like raw prawn on tongs after a few days.

Will a Snowflake Moray eat my fish?

Typically, no. They are crustacean specialists, so as long as your fish are significantly larger than the eel's mouth, they are generally safe. Very small fish, such as nano gobies, may eventually be eaten if the eel is hungry.

Why is my eel constantly opening its mouth?

This is completely normal behaviour. Moray eels do not have gill covers (opercula) like other fish, so they must continuously open and close their mouths to actively pump oxygenated water over their gills.
