About the Spotted Mandarin
Renowned for its breathtaking aesthetic, the Spotted Mandarin—often called the Psychedelic Mandarin—features an olive-green base completely covered in large, target-like spots ringed with blue, black, and orange. Belonging to the dragonet family, it lacks typical scales, instead relying on a thick, unpleasant-tasting mucus coat to deter predators and resist parasites like marine ich. They spend their days hovering meticulously over rockwork and substrate, constantly scanning for microscopic prey. While their slow, calculated movements are charming to watch, this specialised biology requires a keeper willing to fully cater to their unique lifestyle.
