About the Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber

Recognised for its distinctive yellow and brown banded appearance, the Tiger Tail Sea Cucumber (Holothuria hilla) is a staple of the marine clean-up crew. As it slowly moves across the aquarium floor, it ingests sand to extract detritus and uneaten food, excreting clean, pelletised sand behind it. This continuous turning of the substrate prevents the buildup of harmful anoxic zones. Unlike some of its more toxic relatives, the Tiger Tail is considered relatively safe for reef tanks, rarely eviscerating unless severely stressed.
