About the Zander

The zander, often known as the pikeperch, is one of Europe's premier freshwater predators. With its torpedo-shaped body, distinctive spiny dorsal fin, and mouth filled with formidable canine teeth, it is perfectly adapted for hunting. Although it bears a superficial resemblance to both pike and perch, it belongs entirely to the perch family (Percidae). Zander have exceptionally good low-light vision, allowing them to hunt effectively in deep, turbid waters or during twilight hours.
