Why are my Zebra Danios chasing each other so aggressively?

This is completely normal behaviour. Zebra Danios are highly active schooling fish that establish a social hierarchy by chasing one another. Keeping them in a group of at least six helps spread this mild aggression out so no single fish is overly stressed.

Can Zebra Danios live in an unheated tank?

Yes, they are highly adaptable and do very well in cooler water. As long as the room temperature remains stable between 18°C and 24°C, they can thrive without a dedicated aquarium heater.

Why did my Zebra Danio jump out of the tank?

Danios have an incredibly strong startle reflex and naturally swim near the water's surface. A sudden shadow, loud noise, or simply a playful chase can cause them to leap. A secure, tight-fitting lid is absolutely essential.

Do Zebra Danios nip fins?

They are generally peaceful, but their high energy levels can lead to fin-nipping if they are kept in too small a group. Ensuring a shoal of six or more usually prevents this, though it is still best to avoid keeping them with slow-moving fish that have very long, trailing fins.
